Creativity 101:
I envy the creative folks who can target and hone in their talent and produce beautiful and affirming results. Sure, there is process, growth and change but there is also a sense of accomplishment and trust in knowing ones art. I remember saying to a friend of mine in high school that I am a mediocre artist. This was not meant to be a negative but rather a positive. I seemed to never be amazing in any one art form but quite good at many. This however left me feeling somewhat dissatisfied as an artist. It has taken years to feel comfortable in this, having such an urge to create yet never feeling completely at home with any one discipline. I went to art school, took photography, theatre, film, music courses and loved every moment. Not everyone can take Indonesian Puppetry and African Drumming in one semester (Note: I’m not sure how my parents felt about my degree but I sure can guess). I graduated and entered the real world, was married and have now carved out a good little career in corporate event planning for myself. Am I creative in my career? Absolutely! I have learned the art of flower arranging, design and those extra special touches which make a great event. But it’s not really enough to satisfy my creativity craving and I’ve learned over the years creativity comes out of those who are creative in everything they do.
DIY’ing 101:
These days my creativity spills out through my DIY projects and you know what, it’s my jam! I am pretty darn good at DIY’ing and I love it! The best part, which fits me to a glove, is that it is an ever changing form of creativity. I never get bored! I have been told to find a specific niche and stick with it. To master a product and sell it. But I can’t, it’s just not me and it gets too boring! I really like a little bit of column A, and a little bit of column B, I am good with that and that's my niche.
Stuff She DIYs:
So what is this Stuff She DIYs stuff all about anyway? Well the name says it all. It’s what I’m up to in the DIY world. Many projects can be found for sale on my Etsy site for those of you who are not the DIY’ing type. I also sell regularly out of a few local artisan stores around the GTA and my husband is a great delivery boy :). I love custom orders as well so feel free to contact me if you have something in mind! I post as regularly as I can to Instagram - I do have 2 kiddo's and one on the way (Oh my!) so they keep me fairly busy. In between my life as a mum, wife, event planner and everything in between I can be found doing what I love which is DIYing so follow me and come along for the ride!
